This 30kg shovelnose shark was caught on a penn power stick 11.6ft rod pair with a penn 555GS casting reel loaded with 30lbs mono line. It took my friend and I about forty minute to tame it. We need two gaff to bring it up. The bait used was a night herring on a size 4/0 long shank stainless steel hook.

About Me:

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

I started shore fishing since 1968 and before our shoreline was reclaimed. My house was near to a fishing village called "Mata Ikan" in the Malay language. It means "Fish Eyes" on the eastern side of Singapore. It was a very famous fishing village in the past. At that time we don't use any fishing tackle. What we have are a self made small bamboo rod about 6ft. tie to a mono line with a sinker and a hook. Most of the bait used are self dig sea worm. We can walk about 300 meter out on the natural seabed during the low low tide. The sea there was reclaimed on the year 1974. I then change to fish at the new bedok jetty which was open at the same year. At that time, we only can fish at the beginning to the middle part of the jetty as the navy occupied the end. I was enlisted to serve NS in 1975. After NS, I started to built my career and family.  It was in the year 1985 that I start to do some shore fishing again.  Between 1992-1998, I did a lot of boat fishing along the Changi Sea. 1993 onwards, I concentrated on shore fishing. I have cover almost every part of legal fishing spots along our shoreline. As I stay at the east, my regular fishing ground is normally around there.
