Four strike, one up, three missed. Date: 30-12-2006 Time: Morning. That the result of this morning catch. Lots of bait fish around n it attract a gang of small queenfish chasing after them. I use cable car rig with live tamban as bait to target this surface predator. But the disadvantage of this rig is the auto hook set is not deep as the tension on the main line between the rod tip n the sinker is not very tight. Once the queenie do a acrobatic jump before U strike they will be able to throw out the hook. |

Golden Travelly Date: 31-12-2006 Time: 10.10am It was the last day of the year. Was hopping to catch something before the year end but after some hard work still not result, Those queenie gang that turn up yesterday has been gone. But with some luck, I still manage to fight this golden travelly on other people rod. hahaha... It all happen like this. This middle age man just shifted his rod to where I am n rig a live tamban down. He then goes to jig for tamban leaving his rod unattended. Suddenly his rod bended n line was running out. I look around for him but just couldn't find. Without thinking, I pick up the rod n fight. The fish didn't make a acrobatic jump so I know it cannot be a queenie or garfish. It keep at the bottom all the while when I reel in. Was thinking it could be a grouper but it turn out to be a GT. Quite suprise to me actually. I ask another guy to help to hold the rod as I went to get my gaff to bring it up. The rod owner was very surprise when he return to find the fish on the floor. |

Double Spike Brown Stingray Date: 28-10-2006 Time: 0215am Rod: Daiwa Sumurai Surf 12ft. Reel: Penn 155L Beachmaster. Line: Braided 30lbs. Rig: Short snood bottom feeder Hook: S/S short shank Live bait size 2/0 Bait: Fresh small squid. As usual went to the jetty every friday night to catch squid n fishing. Reach there around 7.30pm. Tide was at the bottom end. No current at all. Now aday I only set up one rod as too busy if the squid is around. Initial bait was frozen tamban. But whatever cast down was finish off within minute. Tide started to turn up around 8.30pm but current was slow. It was until about 12am mid night then the current start to move faster n the bait was more lasting. Seeing this, I decided to change on the fresh squid. First two squid gone without action. I change the third one around 2am. Fifteen minute later my reel alarm has a short scream. I went for the rod n the alarm start to scream again. Pickup n strike. Yes...heavy at the end. It make one deep dive n relax. At one point I thought it has missed hook as my rod tip gone light without tension. But actually the fish was swimming in toward my direction. On notice this, I crank my reel handle like mad trying to catch up with the fish before it went under the jetty. Luckily manage to catch up with it n by the time its near the jetty it already surface up. One of my friend use his rope gaff to bring it up for me. It was a male brown ray with two spike. My hook was deeply hook inside the throat. It weigh at 4kg. The fish was later cut up n given out to few guys. |

Lunar New year gift. Date: 20-02=2007 Time: 10am Rod: ATC Pro Beach 13ft Reel: Penn 500L Jigmaster Line: 30lbs mono Rig: Long snood bottom feeder Bait: Fresh dead tamban After three days of eating n drinking, early morning headed down to the jetty hopefully for some workout. After setting up my tackle, manage to jig for some tamban as bait. Tide was coiming up with fast current but the sea was calm. Bait was very lasting. One of my friend Chuan join me awhile later. Around 10am, saw my rod the tip shake a bit. When over to watch n as the line started to move, I strike. Yes, heavy at the end but got snag after awhile. Can feel the fish is struggling but my grip sinker got stuck. Decide to release some line for the fish to move. Yup, after awhile, my sinker was free. I gave a hard pump n it is off the sea bed. Not very big so it was easy to wind back. It surface n saw it was a marine catfish about 1.5kg. Used my rod to lift it up. Hahaha...lunar new year present from the sea dragon king.

Stripe Mackeral Date: 04-03-2007 Time: 10.00am Rod: Penn Powergraph Surf 12ft. Reel: Penn Jigmaster 500L Line: 30lbs mono. Rig: Long snood bottom feeder Bait: Dead fresh Tamban. Yesterday night got a call from "Hong" saying that "Commando" has caught a 6kg leopard ray while the rain was pouring. He want me to go down early to join them. I told him that my place was raining heavily also n I will be there once the rain stop. Around 9pm the sky was clear. I headed down to the jetty but both of them has already packup n went home.I fish alone n was later join by some regular there. No action at all n bait was not lasting. I packup around 2am n take a rest. This morning I went in again. Quickly set up two sets of tackles n jig for tamban. Manage to get some as this fewdays it was quite rare in the morning tide. Tide was coming up fast while current was quite strong. !0am saw a rod next to mine was bending. I told the owner n he strike but he told me no hookup. While winding in it entangle my line. I release my line for him to untangle it. Now my line was push by the current n was at a 45% angle. Decided to recast so I start winding in my line. Feel alittle heavy at the end of it. While my rig almost surface, the fish made some struggling. Hahaha... it was my rod that caught the fish...The fish must have hookup n sweep across over his line by the current causing his rod tip to shake.. I saw it was a small stripe mackeral while it surface n I use my rod to lift it up. It was about 500g in weight. Hahaha... today was the last day of the lunar new year n I got a small present from the sea dragon king.... |
